Cocaine produces its powerful high by effecting on the brain and through the blood and it affects the whole body. Cocaine damages the brain, heart, blood vessels, and lungs. Cocaine can cause sudden death. In people with high blood pressure, regular cocaine use can accelerate the long-term kidney damage caused by high blood pressure.

Cocaine is causing strokes because it can constrict blood vessels in brain. It is very destructive for the heart speeding the heart beat and increasing blood pressure. In the normal communication process, dopamine is released by a neuron into the synapse, where it can bind to dopamine receptors on neighboring neurons. In regular state dopamine is then recycled back into the transmitting neuron by a specialized protein called the dopamine transporter. If cocaine is present, it attaches to the dopamine transporter and blocks the normal recycling process, resulting in a buildup of dopamine in the synapse, which contributes to the pleasurable effects of cocaine. The result of taking cocaine can be a heart attack. Cocaine can also cause arrhythmia and it could damage all people without heart problems even very young people.

Lungs and respiratory system are heavly damaged by cocaine. Snorting cocaine damages the nose and sinuses and daily use can cause nasal damage. Smoking crack cocaine irritates the lungs and causes permanent lung damage.

Some say that cocaine is aphrodisiac but it is a complete nonsense. It will cause sexual disfunction. Cocaine can damage sexual function in men and women. Cocaine cause delayed or impaired ejaculation for man.

Cocaine constricts blood vessels supplying the gastrointestinal tract. The resulting oxygen loss can cause ulcers, or worse - perforation of the stomach or intestines. It cause sudden kidney failure through a process called rhabdomyolysis.
