Not all alcohol drinkers become full-blown alcoholics, but it is a huge risk factor. Alcoholism (alcohol addiction) and alcohol abuse are two different forms of problem drinking.
Alcoholism is when you have signs of physical dependence to alcohol and continues to drink, despite problems with mental and physical health. It's a drinking problem. Alcohol abuse is when your drinking leads to problems, but not physical addiction. It's more frequent than alcoholism.
If you’re a weekend drinker or you drink every day, the risks of developing alcoholism problem are greater. Many of us ask ourself occasionaly a question: "Do I have drinking problem?"
Some national groups, such as American Indians and Native Alaskans, are more at risk than others of developing alcohol addiction because lack of enzyme that could manage alcohol. Moderate alcohol consumption will not generally cause any psychological or physical harm.
